STONEWORK AS ART

In 1946, the year I was born, my grandparents built a small log cabin on wooded acreage they owned south of Baldwin.  Years later, my grandparents retired there and added a huge family room replete with a massive fireplace they built with stones they’d hand-gathered from their property.  The first picture is of my grandfather working on the addition, and the second is of the finished room and its stone fireplace.  Watching him put each stone in place, I gained an appreciation for stonework as an art form.  I’ve been collecting pictures over the fall to illustrate that idea.
