At the end of each year, I look through my photos and choose my favorites of the year.  The first three are critters I photographed: sandhill cranes, a white egret, and a bald eagle.  The next two are seasonal favorites, spring blossoms and fall color.  I chose the four pictures that follow because of the light they captured.  But my favorite image of 2023 was this Buckley barn.  I was grabbed by its subtle colors.  Let me know if you have a favorite.

I’ve heard there are several mega holiday displays in the area, but I ran into this one on State Street quite by accident.  It’s excessive, but fun too.  I can’t imagine the technology skills and hard work that went into putting it together.  Once the music starts, the display synchs to the song playing.  I took a video of this but it wouldn't upload to this particular platform.  It's on my FaceBook page is you want to get the full effect.  Here's the link if you want to copy it into your browser:

When I moved to Traverse City from Northport in 2017, one of the places I first explored was the Grand Traverse Commons.  I was especially drawn to the beautiful red spires.  The Commons is also a good place for a night drive during the holiday season.

Taking pictures of the lights people decorate their homes and yards with is one of my favorite holiday traditions.  But, holiday lights have different meanings to different people.  For some, the lights have religious significance, as Hanukkah, the Jewish Festival of Lights, or the Christian belief that Jesus is the Light of the World.  And  as we approach the Winter Solstice, lights also brighten the cold dark nights of winter.  Whatever holiday lights mean to you, I hope you enjoy them this season.
