FINALLY, A HAWK

I hadn’t seen a hawk close enough to photograph since last winter.  I was in luck, though, when I spied this beautiful Red-Tailed Hawk on a wire along M-113 west of Kingsley.  It watched, relieved itself (seriously, I hadn’t expected this), spied me, scoured the area for prey, and finally took off.

BUCKLEY BARNS

Passing through the Buckley countryside in search of migrating birds a couple weeks ago, I couldn’t help notice the beautiful barns in this vibrant farming community.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING

With the sun further south this time of year, it’s more difficult to find places to capture sunrises and sunsets over water.  But I found a good one last Saturday morning right here in Traverse City at East Bay Park.  So much to be grateful for on this Thanksgiving Day, even if it’s just the gift of another sunrise to watch.

MOODY LAKE MICHIGAN

On my last few visits to Sleeping Bear this season, I focused on the moods of Big Blue.  I was always surprised what the Lake would offer each day.

OUT AND BACK

Yesterday’s weather was too good to waste indoors.  60 degrees and blue skies…on November 15th!!  I decided to head to Mission Point to see what caught my eye.  No expectations.  Just being outside enjoying the beautiful afternoon.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, GRACIE

My mini-goldendoodle turned ten yesterday.  It made me reminisce about her life so far through pictures I’ve taken.

Gracie comes home.  She only weighed five pounds.

Gracie and big sister Oakley bonded immediately.

From the beginning, she loved chewies…

…and playing catch in the backyard.

When we lived in Northport, our back porch was a favorite place for the dogs while I read and wrote.

The fenced yard was smaller when we moved to Traverse City in 2017, but there was still room play Chuckit.

A good friend gave Gracie this pink platypus when she was young.  It’s still her favorite toy and she carries it around constantly.

Gracie loves stealing her mom’s big blue chair when she’s working at the computer.

She puts up with all my photo get-ups too.

By far, Gracie’s favorite activity involves the word RIDE, when she knows she gets to go with me to take pictures.  She loves hanging out the window while I photograph critters and scenery.

Happy birthday, dear Gracie.  You’re a great little companion.
