DANDIES

I prefer not to call them weeds. To me, they’re another wildflower.  The name dandelion is actually quite elegant, coming from the French ‘dent de lion’ (tooth of a lion) referring to the shape of its leaves.  I enjoyed seeing them this spring in clumps here and there, spreading across fields, and beneath the flowering cherry trees in orchards.  Even after the flowers are spent, the puffballs are attractive and remind me of when I blew them apart as a child.

  2. A wonderful collection of dandelion photos, Karen! Perhaps because I love how they look under cherry trees, I have come to appreciate dandelions, even when they are in my lawn.
