Fudgies Enjoy Northport

Fudgies?  Yes, fudgies!  Fudgies is the name we've fondly given to the tourists who visit our up north villages.  The name came about because these tourists often frequent the fudge shops that you'll find in these small towns.  But wait, Northport has no fudge shop.

Who needs fudge when Northport has Barb's?!  Here the women and children of the downstate
extended Miller family enjoy morning treats outside Barbs.

And Emmy, the youngest member of the family, is thoroughly enjoying her napoleon pastry.

But The Miller family wasn't the only group of Fudgies I photographed this week.  My friend Barb had both her granddaughters here this week, Erin (left) and Casey (center).  They are learning new cameras and wanted some help using them.  Casey is also getting ready to be the photographer for her 8th grade school newspaper.  They were all excited when I asked them to help with my weekly blog post.  I sent them out with this assignment:  Show me what Fudgies do when they're in Northport.  They did an excellent job giving a pictorial representation of this assignment.

Fudgies shop...

ride bikes...

play at the playground...

walk their dog at the marina...

admire the beautiful gardens in the village...

eat ice cream...

play on the beach...

camp at the Leelanau State Park....

look at the boats in the marina...

visit Grand Traverse Lighthouse....

learn new facts about the area...

enjoy the water...

and play in the water.

But what we saw a lot of was Fudgies taking pictures of family...

and loved ones.

And we even saw photographers taking pictures...

of other photographers.  :-)

Thanks everyone for your willingness to help with this blog post.  It was great fun!  Erin and Casey, you are on your way to being good photographers.  Keep on clicking!

Bountiful Leelanau

When I think of Leelanau County and its agriculture, cherries and grapes probably come to mind first.  A drive through the northern third of the county, however, shows that Leelanau's bounty extends far beyond those two crops.  Combine the agribusiness with the county's rolling hillsides and you're in for some sightseeing as lovely as spring blossoms and fall color.

Independence Day: Northport Style

The village was packed; hardly a parking spot remained, especially near the marina.  People were in town to enjoy the good food at our restaurants, shop in our unique stores, play on the beach, and hear the Community Band play patriotic favorites.  But all these activities were in anticipation of the big festivities beginning at dusk.  It's no secret that Northport has one of the best fireworks displays in all of Northern Michigan, and 2015 did not disappoint.  Oohs and aahs could be heard all around the waterfront as one colorful fireworks after another exploded into the night.
