BECOMING MURAL CITY

I read on the Ticker that Traverse City will launch a mural festival in September, 2025.  During the week-long festival, artists will paint a minimum of five new murals around the North Boardman Lake District.  I’m partial to murals as an art form because they’re accessible to everyone.  The festival news sent me out looking for murals I hadn’t seen before, including ones painted on electrical boxes and garbage bins.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING

May you spend good times with family and friends this Thanksgiving.  Safe travels if you’re on the road.  For "Up North" people, keep an eye on the weather forecasts.  Snowy scenes may be arriving soon.  Woohoo!

SANDHILL CRANE FLY-IN

I got an Audubon alert that a large number of migrating Sandhill Cranes had landed on the mudflats at Logan’s Landing Saturday morning.  I stopped counting at 50 birds and focused on taking pictures.  Even though I had a wide-angle lens in addition to my long wildlife lens, I couldn’t capture the scope of the scene.  Cranes were everywhere:  fishing, preening, sleeping, and squawking at each other.  They left footprints in the sand…and on my heart.

ARTSY WOODPILES

With Fall here, I’m seeing more and more woodpiles as people prepare for winter.  I’ve always found beauty in them, especially how they fit together,  I hadn’t thought of them as an art form, though, until I ran into the last one in a yard near Lake Ann.

FALL’S FURY

The Wind Advisory sent me to Frankfort to photograph choppy Lake Michigan, blowing beach grass, and two lighthouses with crashing waves.  I stood the forceful winds for about an hour.  On the drive home, I noticed sand covered my sweatshirt and my mouth felt gritty.  What fun it was!!
