Last Vestiges of Fall Color in Orchards and Oaks

  1. In the third photo, are those oaks or beeches? The color looks like oak. Don't you love the way the vivid color contrasts with grey, lowering skies? Trees in that last image are no doubt much closer to bare branches today, if they've lost as many leaves as the trees between our house and Lake Leelanau. Thanks for catching these!

  2. Pamela....Those are a stand of oak trees. When I took the picture, I didn't think it would turn out so well, but it's my favorite of the lot. Leaves are fast coming down. Hope we don't get so much snow tonight we can't get the leaves up. Thanks for your visit. Karen

    1. Years ago (and for many, many years before that, obviously) there was a beautiful row of chestnut trees along a driveway off Novotny Road. Together they formed an incredibly lovely arched crown like these oaks of yours. The chestnuts were cut down, and I'm not over it yet. I hope your oaks last our lifetime.

    2. Pamela...What a sad story of the chestnuts being cut down. I too hope "my" Oaks last. They are just north of Kilcherman's apple farm and provide a lovely canopy. Karen

  3. Hi Karen! I just found this post. I've been eying the orchards and thinking about the photo possibilities.
Given the weather we are having, I fear I've waited too long. Happily, you got some beautiful shots! Thanks for posting. Glad to see that majestic stand of oaks, too.
P.S. Any of these taken with the 70D?

  4. Hi Jan...Yes the orchards still have pretty good color although after this snow and wind, I'm not sure how long that will last. The second and third pix were taken with the 70D. Enjoying it so far, but lots to learn yet. Thanks for your visit. Karen

  5. Wish we could be there to share in the beauty. Florida is just green, the same shade so to speak.

  6. Thanks for your visit, Lilo. Hope you two are well. We are transitioning from the pretty colors of fall to the whites of winter. We had our first Lake Effect snow warning last night for 6 to 10", but it didn't materialize. Thank goodness it didn't, since we still have leaves on the ground and on the trees. Hope it holds off for a couple weeks. Karen
